Vintage 2019
The 2019 vintage stood out as an exceptionally distinctive growing season across Piedmont. It was the fifth warmest year in the previous 62 years, with an average regional temperature of approximately 10.6°C and a temperature anomaly of +1.5°C compared with the 1971–2000 climatological average (ARPA Piemonte data).
Winter was characterised by mild temperatures and limited rainfall, leading to an early start to the growing season. Spring brought alternating weather patterns: marked temperature fluctuations in March encouraged good bud differentiation, while a late cold spell in May required careful vineyard management. Temperatures rose steadily in June, culminating in an exceptional heatwave between 26 and 29 June. July confirmed the warm character of the season. Annual rainfall reached 1,295.5 mm, 23% above the long-term average, making 2019 one of the wettest years recorded since the end of the Second World War.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay
VINIFICATION AND SPARKLING WINE MAKING
The grapes were harvested entirely by hand to preserve their integrity. Only the free-run and finest press fractions, corresponding to a 50% juice yield, were selected. The base wine underwent its first fermentation with 90% fermented in stainless steel and the remaining 10% in oak. Following tirage, the wine matured on its lees for five years. The brut nature style enhances the grapes’ natural acidity and highlights the varietal purity of Alta Langa Chardonnay from the 2019 vintage.
TASTING NOTES
Brilliant, crystalline gold in colour. The nose is refined and layered, opening with smoky notes and toasted brioche, followed by jasmine, acacia blossom, cedar and white peach. Hints of balsamic herbs and white musk add further depth and complexity. On the palate, the wine is taut and precise, driven by vibrant acidity that lends energy and remarkable persistence. The structure is poised and elegant, with beautifully judged fruit concentration flowing seamlessly across the palate. The absence of dosage highlights the purity of Alta Langa Chardonnay. The finish is long and lingering, with notes of white spice and toasted almond. The mousse is exceptionally fine and silky.
